Halal Initiatives

Safe, hygienic and trusted the world over

Halal is an Arabic word that broadly translates to ‘lawful’ or ‘permissible’. Halal has developed into a universal value and has gained acceptance by everyone for its wholesome, hygienic contamination-free principles in food and non-food products. The application of halal standards and assurance through Halal Certification is not just bolstering Muslim consumers’ trust and confidence but also heightening product legitimacy.

Duopharma Biotech’s Halal Commitment is part of our fardh kifayah, a communal obligation that must be discharged for the community to prosper. We uphold our commitment to producing halal pharmaceutical products that are:

  • Safe for consumption and use;
  • Assured of effectiveness;
  • High-quality standards of ingredients or materials and production; and
  • Manufactured hygienically.

Duopharma Biotech embraces the principle of a holistic approach to halal pharmaceuticals with the “Halal Built-In, Not Tested For” practice. It is a comprehensive method to ensure that our manufacturing facilities are fully halal-compliant. Every step of the way, which includes selecting products, technology, raw materials, packaging, logistics, and warehousing right up to the consumers, adheres to the Malaysian Standard MS 2424, Halal pharmaceuticals – General requirements (First revision). Our commitment to developing products that are assured halal from start to finish eliminates any need for testing as the process of determining halal is built-in.

Duopharma Biotech is the first halal pharmaceutical manufacturer in the world, and has played a pioneering role in the Research & Development and Production of halal pharmaceuticals. Our Halal Journey began in 1998 when halal was integrated with GMP requirements for all production lines and manufacturing processes. We were the first to obtain Halal Malaysia certification from the Department of Islamic Development Malaysia (JAKIM) in 1999 for our renowned Consumer Healthcare brands CHAMPS®, FLAVETTES®, PROVITON® and Naturalle. Our 100% halal consumer healthcare (CHC) products has expanded to include over-the-counter medicines such as painkillers or analgesics, eye drops, cough mixtures, ointments for wounds/cuts/bruises, creams for rash/itchiness, and many more.
In early 2017, Duopharma Biotech became the first pharmaceutical manufacturer to receive Halal Malaysia certification for prescription medicines. This was followed by two major breakthroughs: in 2022, we obtained the first halal certification for a cancer treatment product, and in 2025, for a treatment targeting anaemia associated with chronic renal failure by JAKIM. These milestones demonstrate our commitment to providing a wide range of high-quality, halal-certified medicines, health supplements, and consumer healthcare products.
